BUS contention or incorrect termination/cable config. I've seen this with
a SCSI scanner plugged into a SCSI-II chain. do you have 2 different
connectors on back of the scanner (eg 50-way centronics and 25-way SCSI ?)
if so, try the other connector...and put the scanner at the end of the
chain
